Drs. David and Henry received the Health Providers of the Year Award in April 2010 from HandsOn Battle Creek Director Jim Pearl. They were honored for their work with the dental access program through Community Health Care Connections. Under the Dentists’ Partnership Program, those unable to pay for urgent and emergency dental services receive donated services from local dentists and in return donate their time at local nonprofit organizations. This is a pay-it-forward initiative. Training in proper oral health care also is required of every patient who participants.
David H. Brown D.D.S.
Dr. David Brown is a graduate of Albion College and the Univeristy of
Mihigan School of Dentistry. He has practiced dentistry in Battle Creek
since 1987. He is also a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry, both a
Fellow and a Diplomat in the International Congress Of Oral Implantologists,
and a Level Two Graduate in Biosthetic Dentistry (OBI). He is a member of
the Vedder Crown and Bridge Study Club, Bunting Periodontal Study Club, the
Chicago Dental Society, Michigan Dental Association (past board of
delegates), and the American Dental Association. Dr. Brown has received
America's Top Dentist Award in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 as listed in
the Consumers Research Council of America, Washington D.C.,
Guide to America's Top Dentists.
Grand Rapids Family Magazine and Detroit Hour Magazine have included him in
their inaugural list of U.S. Top Dentists. Dr. Brown donates dental services
on a weekly basis with the Calhoun County Health Plan to help the
underserved. Besides striving for excellence in his own field, Dr. Brown
also serves the community on the Leila Arboretum Board of Directors, and as
an Ambassador for the Battle Creek Community Foundation. He enjoys fishing,
wood ducks, cars, and time with family, and is very active in his church,
First Presbyterian of Battle Creek.
Henry J. Brown D.D.S.
Dr. Henry graduated from Western Michigan University in 1955 and from the
University of Michigan School of Dentistry in 1958. In 1984 he became a
Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry and is now an Emeritus
Fellow. He is a member of the Vedder Crown and Bridge Study Club,
Bunting Periodontal Study Club, the Chicago Dental Society, Michigan Dental
Association, and the American Dental Association. He received a George Award
in 1994 for pioneering and administering the "Children's Dental Health
Month", a third grade visitation program involving more than 1,500 local
students annually for the past 30 plus years. He has been president and
treasurer of the Southwest Michigan Dental Society and in 2008 was named
Alumni Emeritus by the University of Michigan. Dr. Henry has also received
America's Top Dentist Award. He also donates his services weekly to the
Calhoun County Health Plan. He was awarded the Battle Creek School Board
“Above and Beyond award” for 50+ years of service to the
community and has served over 50 years in the Kiwanis Club and Battle Creek.
He was inducted into the Battle Creek and Springfield Central High School's
Hall of Fame in 2011..
Melinda Morales (Front Desk Administrator)
Melinda attended Argubrite Business College. She has been a member of our
team since November 1993. She enjoys spending time with her husband and two
daughters. She also enjoys gardening and spending time with her dogs.
Carrie Hoglen (Hygienist)
Carrie is a 1974 graduate of Kellogg Community College Dental Hygiene
Program with an associate degree in applied science and has spent her entire
career with Brown Family Dentistry. She has held the positions of president
and program director for the Southwest District Dental Hygiene Association.
While serving as a trustee at the state level, Carrie was awarded "Hygienist
of the Year". She is a twenty plus-year member of the Russel Bunting
Periodontal Study Club. She loves the opportunity dental hygiene has given
her to improve lives by teaching our patients the importance of good oral
health. She has enjoyed getting to know so many wonderful people and their
families. Carrie has been married to her high school sweetheart for 38 years
and they have two awesome children. Brian resides in Grand Rapids and Renae
in Kalamazoo. Carrie enjoys running, biking, and sewing, and is involved in
the music programs of her church.
Kendrick Coplin (Dental Assistant & Treatment Manager)
Kendrick has been working as a dental assistant for two years. He has been
married to his wife, Danielle, for one year and has two sons, Logan and
Wyatt. He has lived in Nashville, MI for most of his life and is enjoying
getting to know Battle Creek as well as all of the patients at Brown Family
Dentistry. Kendrick enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, and
woodworking. In his spare time he is a volunteer firefighter.
Laura Gustavson (Hygienist)
Laura is a 1982 graduate of Kellogg Community College with an associates
degree in the Applied Science of Dental Hygiene. She is thrilled to join the
Brown Family Dentistry team. She looks forward to caring for her patients
and helping them to maintain excellent oral health. Laura has been married
to her husband, Al, for 25 years. They have four amazing children. Her
daughter, Morgan, and her husband, Ryan, live in Chicago. Her daughter,
Jordan, and her husband, Danny, live in Los Angeles. Her son, Sam, is a
graduate student at Oklahoma City University and her daughter, Kristin, is
studying at the University of Iowa. Laura enjoys walking her dog (Izzy),
boating, reading, knitting, theater, volunteering, and traveling.

Danielle Feltenbarger (Hygienist)
Danielle grew up in Battle Creek and graduated from Harper Creek Schools in
2003. She then graduated from Kellogg Community College's Dental Hygiene
program in 2005 Danielle recently moved back to Battle Creek to be closer to
family after living in Wayland for 6 years. In her free time she enjoys
spending time with her husband, TJ, and two sons, Oliver and Archer.
Danielle is passionate about providing gentle dental care and educating her
patients about their dental needs.
Becki Hagaman (Clinical Coordinator)
Becki has been working in the dental field for 24 years and has been a
registered dental assistant since 2004. She is a graduate of Washtenaw
Community College. She enjoys spending time with her family, boating, snow
mobiling, reading, riding and showing horses. Becki also volunteers her time
to work with youth through the 4H program throughout the year.
